Certainly, it's immensely gratifying to read such a glowing reviews of my book and to know that I've been able to have such a positive impact on the relationship between parents and their children. Nothing is more meaningful to me.  However, from personal experience, I know that sometimes reading a book with a new perspective that resonates—even when it has concrete advice—is  making real changes in the ways we relate to our kids. While books have been absolutely critical to my journey as a parent, obviously they are a one-sided conversation. I found I needed to work with experts live and over time to make progress and lasting change.

Without a doubt, parenting is the most important and challenging endeavor. We're given the awesome responsibility to care for another human being required to have an ounce of knowledge. And so  of  for which we  least prepared for.  It's hard for me to imagine a better investment of time, energy, thought, care and money than that of your relationship between you and your child.

Three Key Pieces to the Puzzle:

The Culture. Your Childhood. Your Unique Child.

 

Working together, it's essential to look at three elements in order to understand the three elements that are affecting both you and your child. We are all a product of both our culture and our upbringing. In some cases we're aware of things we'd like to change and other forces we don't even realize their affect on us. Some changes we'd like to make we've been successful at, and others are so deeply ingrained in us, we default to ways that we were raised. So reflecting on  your own childhood and that of your partner or co-parent, should you have one, is a critical part of piecing together an approach that will work for your family. Sometimes it can feel like an unfair and even overwhelming burden to have to break cycles, learn new skills, and heal old wounds in order to help your kids. But it's worth it. For your child. And YOU. And then there is your child and their unique personality and temperament. Ways of relating to one child simply may not work for another.
